Hi ive looked on here already but not sure if my exact problem has come up before. Ive had my ps4 since 2015 and about a year ago it stopped reading disks. Sometimes it might read a DVD movie but very rarely. I finally decided to fix the problem and stripped it down. I figured a new laser deck (KEM-490) Was probably what was needed. And it was cheaper than buying a whole new drive. So ive swapped it out but im still getting the exact same problem. The disk doesnt spin at all. All that happens is the laser goes back and forth a few times. The disk readjusts and the laser tries again and then stops. At no point does the disk start to spin up. Now ive taken the cog mechanism skrews off and removed the magnatised disk peice that holds the game in place and whilst its trying to read taken the disk out the drive manually and there seems to be no laser coming out of the lense? Is this normal? Ive read other places it swaps between blue and red when a disk first goes in. I just dont know what to try next. Perhaps a faulty cable or the board attached to the bluray drive has gone wrong somewhere? Im at my limit of my skill level/knowlege of this kind of thing here. But i was pretty sure some kind of light should be emmiting from the lense? Any help would be very much appreciated as im sittibg on about 8 or 9 games that i havent really played and hard pressed to afford the high prices of digital copys of games. Thanks. Here is a pic just for reference

If it was an identical part for sure, you can inspect the cables. But it is likely related to an ic chip or component failure. This can happen, and requires microsoldering. It’s very complex to get into. It requires multimeter testing, microscope, tools, etc. You could check for used parts one eBay and see if there’s one that has a working motherboard. You can definitely factory reset it too just to make sure it’s not a basic software glitch. And make sure you’re up to date on software.
