After being parked for about fifteen minutes, my oil pressure light (yellow) came on when I started the car. I immediately parked, turned off the car, and checked the oil level. The oil wasn’t totally full, but didn’t appear to be below minimums either. When I replaced the dipstick and restarted the car, the light went off. I drove for about 20 minutes and then left it parked for a couple of days. After sitting for a couple of days, I started it and the light didn’t come on. I drove most of the day and it didn’t show any signs of abnormal operation until I parked it again that night. As soon as I parked, the light came back on. Repeated the oil check, replaced the dipstick, light went back off. Any theories as to why it goes off after I check the oil level? I plan to contact my mechanic soon, but I’d love to have an idea if it’s safe to drive to work for the weekend.

Has the oil filter been changed? Does the idle speed go down? Check those out.

do the oil and filter change and see if and blockages hopefully go away, if its an oil pressure light coming on then the level of oil isn’t the issue as such unless its overfull or under its the actual pressure in the oil lines and engine. with the amount of wiring and sensors on modern VW’s I would check to see and make sure there’s no connectors loose in any relevant sensors too if its intermittent, Also depending on the engine, VW made some with VVT (variable Vale Timing) which is controlled on some of their engines via oil channels and oil pressure, old/dirty oil or small foreign objects or gunk in the oil could be moving around the engine and blocking intermittently. hopefully you find the issue easy and get it sorted.
