My battery died so I replaced it. All seemed to go well. On restart everything worked including my playlists so I plugged it in to my Bose station to play and a red X in a circle appeared with the web address to apple support ipod displayed below. Of course the web site no longer exists since it dropped support. Any attempt to restart or reboot results in the apple logo for a moment followed by the red X, then black screen. What gives?

@classpod the red X is usually caused by a bad or sticky hard drive. Double check your work and make sure everything is properly connected, as well as check your new battery. If all that looks good you may have to get a USB adapter for your hard drive and check to see if it can be accessed by your computer. There you can verify if it is/is not your hard drive.
