Hi, I have an Alienware M9700. I shut it down one night and everthing had been working perfectly upto that point, however when I powered it on the following morning I hear the windows startup sound but know graphics on the display. This is the same when an external monitor is connected. I have replaced the GPU but its still the same. Is there anything else I need to look at, Mainboard etc? thank you
I have same laptop, same problem. The GPU is defective from Nvidia.(check lawsuit and affected gpus cc2006-2009)Reflow did not work for long, changing gpu M8700GT could lead to problem resurfaceing. Best solution was to use hot(I used edge just to cover chip) iron-cotton lvl, on gpu silicone chip. Left it for about 10m and then let it cool.(worked great after.) It will not affect different gpu parts like a reflow.(will not affect gpu as its under 200c). Weight of the iron fixes joints problems and internal chip silicone problems for a while.No need to press on Iron. You can complement gpu copper cooling with a copper-plait to keep everything thight.
