Hi I ordered a SSD upgrade kit from iFixit for my iMac Retina EMC 2806 to replace my failing Fusion Drive. Installed the New SSD today. I did not do anything with the New drive before installing because nothing was said in the installation guide, either on video, or on the step by step instruction. After installing the SSD and finish the assembly it won’t reboot for recovery. I press cmd+R but the booting ends with the no parking sign, and check apple.com/support. I have also tried with a USB drive with macOS installer on it What to do? Regards Helge from Norway Sorry for my lack of english skills.
Just to be sure, but you are using a wired keyboard, right? If so, hold down the option key until your boot drives show up, with your USB installer plugged in. Your iMac is currently trying to boot off the internal SSD, which is currently broken because you took out the hard drive. If the USB doesn’t work in that boot menu, you will see an option to enter in the wifi password or use ethernet, and the network recovery option will show up after a couple of mins.
