Hello, I also have a similar problem, I have a Swiss keyboard which needs to be replaced and as of now I have found only a UK keyboard which can be replaced. What happens once replaced, will the alphabets be completely replaced? Meaning once the keyboard is changed will I be able to continue typing as before using the french language format or would I not get the earlier alphabets?
There are two different issues here. The first is the keyboards are not physically the same! The US keyboard is different from the other countries keyboards. The European keyboards all use the ISO standard layout.

Going to the UK keyboard is by far the easier direction as here you can just replace the keycaps (2015 and older systems. If you have a problem with a discreet keys you may need to replace the keyboard assembly which can be done as well. Its a bit of work but might be cheaper than a full uppercase replacement Important: The newer 2016 and newer MacBook’s and MacBook Pro’s (butterfly keyboard) require the complete uppercase be swapped out An alternate way is to get a keyboard skin which just sits on top of your keyboard with the other key assignments. The second issue is the given keys mapping. Using any of the above methods does not effect the keyboards assignment this is done within the system preferences > Keyboard. Here you can re-assign the keyboard to the needed layout depending on what you’ve used. As an example I have skins for my keyboard and have three keyboard assignments
